Types of Moroccan Rugs

Below, we’ve gathered helpful information about the different types of Moroccan rugs we carry — how they’re made, what makes them special, and how to care for them.

Handmade by a women’s cooperative using recycled cotton textile scraps — a creative, eco-friendly way to give new life to fabric waste.

  • Condition: New
  • Availability: One-of-a-kind
  • Feel: Textured, soft cotton; fun and tactile (kids love them!)
  • Pile: Low (0.5–1")
  • Bonus: Machine washable!

Perfect for kids’ rooms, kitchens, or anywhere you want colour and comfort.

Beni Ourain Rugs (White Wool Classics)

Thick, luxurious wool and simple black lines — the Beni Ourain is iconic for good reason. Traditionally woven by nomadic tribes in the Atlas Mountains, these rugs were made for warmth, comfort, and durability.

How to identify an authentic handmade rug:
Look at the back — the knots should be irregular. Machine-made rugs have perfectly uniform patterns.

  • Condition: New
  • Availability: In stock or custom-made
  • Feel: The softest, most luxurious wool
  • Pile: Medium (approx. 1")

FAQ: Do your rugs shed?
Hardly at all! We use premium, hand-selected wool and inspect every rug before it ships.

FAQ: Is a white rug a good idea for pets and kids?
Honesty time — probably not the best fit for heavy traffic or dark-furred pets! For busy families, we recommend our colorful wool or cotton rugs instead.

Each rug takes weeks to make and brings warmth and texture to any modern space.
